Where I dump photos and musing from travels in India, Hyderabad, Goa, Dubai, Delhi, Beijing, Hong Kong, Nanjing, and some other places I'll fill in later.

The Dabbawallas of Mumbai, famed for the impeccable team work, time management and delivery record, are striking work today for the first time in 120 years. This to support the Jan Lokpal bill by Anna Hazare (a social activist who has galvanized the nation) which is hoped to bring corruption under control.
The Dabbawallas, about 5000 in number, cater to nearly 200,000 residents of Mumbai and deliver lunches from their homes in the suburbs to their offices every day. They are reputed to make less than one mistake (average) in 6 million deliveries and have never interrupted their service, be it for weather or some other reason.

Oh India. Sometimes your people make me all teary with their heart.

Fou weeks left total in Hyderabad. Then the list of destinations gets pretty dizzying: Agra, Delhi, Valley of Flowers, Jaipur, then leaving India for Hong Kong, Macau (Happy Birthday to me!), Hong Kong again, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Greater Japan, Tokyo, then States, drop the kids in Minneapolis first so they won’t see me weep at night when it comes time to re-enter teh San Francisco rental market.

I’m excited. I’m scared. I’m not ready to leave India, but miss home. So many places to go yet. NO internet while in PRC (I’m a google girl), which will be so weird.

Lots of cool stuff in Bangalore! I’ll post pics later tonight.

Overtraining

1. When I  buy a new pair of running shoes I’m way too pleased at the bloodstains from blisters as they are broken in. “By the time I’m done with these shoes. I’ll run faster and longer than ever before, take that, pain”

2. I get sick weekly, only take one day off and debate taking meds to run with a high fever. (NO, I didn’t do it, but damn, how did I get to this point?)

3. My training plan falls to pieces and all I’m left with is: One hour as fast and as hard as I can, everyday. This initially brings some awesome results, but they fade for me after a few weeks when I burnout.

4. My body after so many small illnesses starts to reject the idea of food outright and I STILL KEEP RUNNING. “Juice gives me enough carbs to go on, rite?” (Not even close, must eat to run, always. No debate)

5. I nail my goals in an early morning run, but then my family wonders why I’m too exhausted to walk to the corner for the rest of the day.  (Pathetic, yes.)

Nothing to do but heal from my latest stupid injury and start running all over again as if I don’t know how.

Bangalore today!

First running at the gym, then airport, then Bangalore by myself for a weekend! So excited.

Someone is playing a movie soundtrack at full volume in my neighborhood right now. The treacly romance songs! But of course it’s being played for the dance numbers, which are turned up SUPER LOUD. wow. My windows are vibrating. Also, the snare drums are giving me a headache.

This is not a normal Monday morning in my India at all. I can hear the guards & other people outside my street now talking about it. They better not blame me!

Love does not claim possession, but gives freedom.

I’ll always reblog Tagore, he was amazing! :)

Charminar has been the planned center of the city since it was built in 1591. It’s made from granite & has four arches, one in each direction. It has two full floors of rooms and the gallery made from the archways. Tourists can walk around on one of the floors.

AP is a no cow killing state and vegetarian eating is tasty so I haven’t had a lot of meat here. Thankfully, Hyderabad is a mingling of Hindu and Islam which means this beautiful ginormous vat of beef biryani within eyeshot of two mosques is def halal to eat.
I’ve been here a few times. You have to go behind the fruit vendor carts on the SE side of Charminar. I always am greeted the same, “Beef Biryani?” “Yes, please” So yummy with green peppers throughout, just enough to break out in a sweat, not enough to hurt. The beef was tender and tiny, the boiled egg on top perfect.

One of the ways you can pimp your Hyundai or Tata is to customize the backing up alarm. Someone across the street has this as theirs, which is awesome, it’s much preferred to the car that plays ‘Silent Night’ every time they back up.

Chrome add ons

are kicking my ass. I’m going to sleep first in all this monsoon rain, then figure out how I like using this best. Thank you, Chrome add on coders!
